The Consolidation process
LegalSuite offers three
Consolidation Methods for you to choose:
| i. |
Full
Consolidation:
If you select full consolidation the
system creates a transaction that transfers the balance
of the individual matters to the consolidated matter
which offsets the business debits and trust credits of
the individual matters against each other. This is used
if you require one long tax invoice that incorporates a
summary of each matter’s balances at the top followed by
the individual matters and their transactions. |
| ii. |
Consolidate
Balance Only:
This option creates a transaction that
transfers the balance of the individual matter to the
consolidated matter which offsets the business debits
and trust credits of the individual matters against each
other. This is used when you require separate tax
invoices for each individual matter plus a separate
summary tax invoice of the balances of each matter. |
| iii. |
Consolidate
Invoice Only:
This option does not create a consolidation transaction
and so there is no offsetting of individual business
debits with trust credits. This is used when you
require one tax invoice incorporating all individual
matters and their transactions. |
How it works:
| 1. |
The First Step
would be to open a matter on LegalSuite that can act as
the Consolidated Account. |
| |
Under the General Tab, the process would be the
same as opening the individual matter except for that
the File Reference would be (matter code)/99999
and the Matter Type would be Consolidated.
Under the Accounting Information Tab, the
Consolidation Method would remain No Consolidation
as you can never consolidate a matter to
itself. |
| 2. |
The second step would be to mark the individual matters
for consolidation. In this case, under the
Accounting Information Tab, you would need to change
the Consolidation Method to Full Consolidation,
Consolidate Balance Only or Consolidate Invoice
Only and obviously select the relevant consolidation
matter under Consolidate To. |
|
 |
| Note: |
Should you wish to consolidate more than one individual
matter at a time, you need to tag the relevant matters,
go to the File Menu, Tagged Matters and
select Modify Tagged Matters. Select the
Accounting Information Tab and change
Consolidation Method and Consolidate To
options. |
| 3. |
To run the consolidation process, you need to go to the
Batches Screen, Special and select
Consolidation. This option creates a consolidation
batch which transfers the balances from the individual
matters to the consolidated matter by journal. |
| |
If the batch is correct, click |
 |
to post the Consolidation Batch. |

“Right click”
menus in LegalSuite.
In LegalSuite we have several other menus
besides the obvious ones like the ones on
the Top Toolbar or the Icon buttons.
When you Right Click on most of the yellow
screens in the program you will get a pop up
menu, with different options regarding that
particular screen.
For instance, when you right click on the
All Matters screen you will have a pop
up menu that looks like this:
This will give you instant options that are
also available on other menus.
Next time you use LegalSuite, try to use
this function - you may be pleasantly
surprised!

Critical CDL Milestones and Timelines
It is extremely important that you adhere to
the milestones and timelines prescribed by
the banks to ensure that all the parties
involved in the registration of the bond can
track the progress of the matter at all
times. These messages that are sent between
the banks and the attorneys also enable L@W
to draw performance graphs and statistical
information reflecting your firm’s
performance and the national average.

Please note:
If you get an Amended Instruction,
you then start again from MT34 "Client
contacted". The banks need to know that the
client has been advised of the changes to
his bond application.
Use MT10 "Free Format" only for general
information and only if there is no other
message type that would serve the purpose.
"Free formats" takes lowest priority at the
banks because of the high volumes being
sent.

LegalSuite Christmas Party - 2005 |

LegalSuite
Christmas Party 2005
Christmas parties
can often
be very
boring as you tend to always do the same thing
year after year. This year we
decided on something different.
We had a team
building event instead.
This was
loads of fun. We had the guys
from "Fusion
Cooking"
to organise and facilitate the
event. We split up into two
groups with our two "Pregnant
Fairies" as team leaders and the
"cooking" started, we still
don't know which team was the eventual winner! It
was a very enjoyable afternoon
with everyone being involved in some way or
another in the preparation of
the food. It certainly was
something very different and
will be a Christmas Party remembered
for many years to come!
