Introduction:

From time-to-time clients find it necessary to move LegalSuite from their current LegalSuite Server onto a new

machine, reasons for this vary but the most common reasons are: Server has crashed or has been infected by a

virus or upgrading the Server to a more powerful machine.

Step 1: Backing up the LegalSuite Database.

For ease of administration, please follow this link to view the LegalSuite Backup Guide:

Please ensure that the backup process does not generate any errors as this will prevent the database from being

attached later in the installation.

Step 2: Installing Microsoft SQL on the new LegalSuite Server

For ease of administration, please follow this link to view the Microsoft SQL 2005 Express Installation Guide:

Step 3: Transferring the LegalSuite program files

3.1       Installing the LegalSuite program on a new computer requires only that the existing “Lsuite” folder be copied

across to the new server. Do this by locating the “Lsuite” directory, typically the default location is: “C:\Lsuite”

however, this may vary depending on the initial installation.

3.2       Once the “Lsuite” folder has been copied to the new location on the new LegalSuite Server, the database backup

file needs to also be copied onto the new LegalSuite Server – This is the “.bkp” file created in Step 1.

Step 4: Attaching the database
