Introduction:

 

This whitepaper will help you create the LegalSuite shortcut on a workstation.

Step 1: Creating the LegalSuite Shortcut

 

1.1       Right-Click on your Windows desktop.

1.2       Move your mouse down to “New”

1.3       From the expanded menu, select “Shortcut” as illustrated below:

 

 


The following screen will appear:

 

 

1.4       In the text box you will need to type the following:

            String= L:\LSW\lsw.exe “SQLlogin=LanceD\sqlexpress,,ls123,password123”

If LegalSuite is not installed using the default values then the above target would need to

be in the following format;

%NETWORKDRIVE%\LSW\lsw.exe “SQLlogin=%SERVERNAME%\%INSTANCENAME%,

,%DBUSERNAME%,%DBPASSWORD%”

1.5       Once you are sure that you path is correct, click on the “Next” button as shown below:

 

 

The below screen will appear:

 

1.6       Change the name in the text box to: LegalSuite and click “Finish”

 

 

You will now have a new LegalSuite Shortcut on your desktop of this machine:

Appendix A

 

Determining the target line and SQL String of the shortcut.

 

The LegalSuite shortcut is made up of the following components:

·         The path to lsw.exe

·         The SQL connection string

 

For the target line:

%NETWORKDRIVE%\LSW\lsw.exe “SQLlogin=%COMPUTERNAME%\%INSTANCENAME%,,%DBUSERNAME%,%DBPASSWORD%

 

%NETWORKDRIVE% - This is the drive letter of the mapped network drive. This network drive is mapped to the Lsuite folder located on the LegalSuite Server.

[Default is L:]

Please see Appendix B with further help in determining the drive letter of your mapped network drive.

 

%COMPUTERNAME% - This is the computer name of the machine where LegalSuite is installed.

 

%INSTANCENAME% - This is the instance name given to the Microsoft SQL Server during the installation of Microsoft SQL Server

[Default is SQLEXPRESS]

 

%DBUSERNAME% - This is the user name assigned to the LegalSuite database at the point that setupdb.exe was used to attach the LegalSuite database.

[Default is ls123]

 

%DBPASSWORD% - This is password assigned to the LegalSuite database at the point that setupdb.exe was used to attach the LegalSuite database.

[Default is password123]


Appendix B

 

Determining the Mapped Network Drive

 

Open your “My Computer” by double-clicking on your “My computer” icon on your desktop which will open the below screen:

[Please note that yours may differ slightly, depending on your version of Windows and how the display settings are configured.]

 


Under the “Network Location” partition, can see the mapped network drive:

 

 

From here we can see that the mapped network drive is drive “L:”
